The same service robot stays in use in one place and is switched off in another. What makes the difference?

This research builds a way to judge, before launch, whether a physical AI product is likely to stay in everyday use. The site’s archive grows out of the same work.

Seungbin Jeong is an industrial designer and HRI researcher with 15 years in product design, an MSc in design (HRI) from UNIST, and current MRes research at the Royal College of Art (2026–27).

How the research works

  1. Step 1Record casesRobots that stayed and robots that stopped, recorded from public sources and field visits.
  2. Step 2Ask people who knowInterviews and an anonymous expert panel of designers, engineers, researchers and operators.
  3. Step 3Test the judgementCheck the tool against cases whose outcome is known, then against a small robot placed in real rooms.

Take part

This project is looking for people who have worked with service robots in real places:

  • Designers and engineers who have developed service or companion robots
  • Operators: shop owners, facility managers, nurses, anyone who has had a robot at work
  • Researchers in HRI, design or related fields

Taking part usually means a 45 to 60 minute conversation, in English or Korean, online or in person. Interviews begin once research ethics approval is in place.
